The Story of the Autograph

Lance Painter is a former left-handed relief pitcher in the major leagues. He spent ten seasons in the major leagues from 1993 to 2003. During that time he played for the Colorado Rockies, St. Louis Cardinals (twice), Toronto Blue Jays and Milwaukee Brewers.

Painter was born in the United Kingdom, but he went to high school in Wisconsin. He then attended the University of Wisconsin and from there was drafted by the Padres in the 25th round of the 1990 MLB Draft. But before he could play for San Diego he was drafted by the Rockies in the 1992 expansion draft. He made his major league debut with them on May 19, 1993.

His best year in Colorado was probably 1995 when he saw action in 33 games and he went 3-0 with a 4.37 ERA in 45.1 innings. He moved on to the Cardinals in 1997 and had his most appearances in the league in 1998 with 65 and 1999 with 56. In 1998 he went 4-0 with a 3.99 ERA in 47.1 innings.

In more recent years he’s coached the Great Britain national team and in the minors.

The Score on Lance Painter – 6.5

Lance’s signature is mostly his initials, but it’s definitely his first initial and then a few squiggles for his last name. I think my two favorites of these are the 1993 Topps card and the 1991 Classic card. Those really do the best job showing off his signature.

Thanks Mr. Painter! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
