The Story of the Autograph

Wayne Edwards is a former left-handed relief pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1989 to 1991, all with the Chicago White Sox.

Edwards is a native of California. The White Sox drafted him in the tenth round of the 1985 MLB Draft out of Azusa Pacific University. He spent several years in the minors before making his major league debut on September 11, 1989.

Of the three years that he played, he really only spent one year in the majors with significant playing time. In 1990 he went 5-3 in 42 games with five starts and two saves. He had a 3.22 ERA over 95 innings. The other two seasons he had only 7 and 13 starts.

Probably more significantly he played drums. He was in the band V.I.E.W. with his teammate Jack McDowell. He came from a musical family as his father, Wayne Sr., was a drummer from the Hondells.

Wayne did a good job on these cards. You can see that he is the type of signer who tries to figure out the best place for a signature, always appreciated. Of course that means for some funny placements as you look across the cards in the return. I’m not sure if Matt Kinzer signs but I might have to try to find out to finish that card off.

Thanks Mr. Edwards! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
