The Story of the Autograph

Seung-Hwan Oh is a relief pitcher currently with the Toronto Blue Jays. He signed with them late into Spring Training this year after being with the Cardinals for two years. Prior to his time with the Cardinals he spent nine years in the Korean KBO League and then two in Japan.

Oh was born in Jeongeup, South Korea and attended school in Seoul. He was a pitcher since he started in baseball, but he had some serious arm injuries in 1999 and switched to the outfield. He actually saw some interest from MLB scouts in high school but decided to attend college instead. While in college he missed two seasons after going through Tommy John surgery in 2001. When he came back he works as a relief pitcher. He closed out his college career by winning most of the Korean college pitching awards.

In Korea he would play professionally for the Samsung Lions. He was drafted in the second round there and would be the 2005 Korean Rookie of the Year. He would make seven Korean All-Star teams and was the reliever of the year five times. He helped his team to five Korean Series championships and was the MVP twice. In Japan he led the league in saves twice and was an All-star in 2015 with the Hanshin Tigers.

Seung-Hwan has some pretty great nicknames. First he is known as “Dul-bucheo” or “Stone Buddha” for being a rock and emotionless while on the mound. But my favorite might be “Kkeut-pan Wang” or “Final Boss” since the greatest closers in Korean baseball.

The Score on Seung-Hwan Oh – 7.5

This is really cool. When do you get the chance to have someone sign in a different language? The Allen & Ginter is great but there is a little of a smudge or something on it. It’s hard to notice though. The other card is great quality but it was signed on the darker part of the card so it’s a little bit blended with the dark background. Otherwise I’m pretty excited to get these back. I sent pretty late in Spring Training because he signed late.

Thanks Mr. Oh!  I’m giving these a 7.5.
