The Story of the Autograph

Scott Medvin is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He spent three seasons in the league from 1988 to 1990 as a relief pitcher. During that time he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Seattle Mariners.

Medvin is a native of Ohio. He was never drafted and signed with the Detroit Tigers as an amateur free agent on September 27, 1983. He would never play for them in the majors though. In 1985 he was traded to the San Francisco Giants as a player to be named later in the deal that sent Juan Berenguer and Bob Melvin to the Giants for Eric King, Dave LaPoint and Matt Nokes. But before he could debut with them he was traded tot he Pirates with Jeff Robinson for Rick Reuschel.

But he still wasn’t done moving around. In December of 1987 he went to the Houston Astros in the rule 5 draft but was returned the following season to the Pirates. He finally would make his major league debut on May 9, 1988. He would get into 17 games that season and go 3-0 with a 4.88 ERA. He would play in six games the following season. He was on the move again in 1990 when the Pirates traded him to the Mariners.

He played in five games for Seattle in 1990 with his final major league appearance coming on September 22, 1990.

The Score on Scott Medvin – 6.5

Scott doesn’t do a bad job on your cards, but he does sign sideways. I’m not usually against any ink on my cards in any way that the person wants to do it. But if I had to choose, it wouldn’t be signing things sideways. But then that’s sort of people’s quirks of signing too. The blue on these doesn’t really go with anything else, but it really does cut through the other colors pretty well.

Thanks Mr. Medvin! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
