The Story of the Autograph

Robert Reid is a former small forward/shooting guard in the NBA. He played professionally from 1977 to 1992 in the NBA with the Houston Rockets (twice), Charlotte Hornets (twice), Portland Trail Blazers and Philadelphia 76ers. He also played with the Tulsa Fast Breakers and Tri-City Chinook in the CBA during that time.

Reid was born in Georgia and raised in Texas. He went to St. Mary’s University in Texas and was then drafted by the Houston Rockets in the second round of the 1977 NBA Draft with the 40th overall pick. His best season were some of the first he played with the Rockets from 1979 to 1982. In the 1980-’81 season he started all 82 games and averaged a career high 15.9 points with 7.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2 steals per game. All but the assists were career highs in addition to the points.

In 1982 he stepped away from basket ball for a year to focus on his faith. He moved to Miami, but then the following year, returned to the Rockets. In those years the Rockets made the finals twice, in 1981 and 1986, but both times they lost to the Celtics.

After 1988 he moved around a lot including playing in the CBA. After his playing days ended he coached in the CBA and in Hungary.

This is a good job from Robert considering what I gave him to sign. Not many can make those 1990 Skybox cards come out very well. He did probably one of the better jobs on them that I’ve seen. The NBA Hoops cards came out much better. I like the way he writes his “Rs”. A repeating letter in names is always an opportunity for some character and he takes it.

Thanks Mr. Reid! I’m giving this return a 6.
