The Story of the Autograph

Steve Kasper is a former left-handed center in the National Hockey League. His career spanned from 1980 to 1993 and during that time he played for the Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Kasper hails from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He played junior hockey in Quebec and was drafted by the Bruins in the 1980 NHL Draft with the 81st overall pick. He played in 76 games in his rookie season and put up 21 goals and 25 assists. But in just his second season he won the Selke Award for being the best defensive center in the game. He would receive votes for that award through most of the rest of his career.

In the 1987-’88 season he helped the Bruins get to the Stanley Cup Finals. Unfortunately they would be swept by the Edmonton Oilers in that series. He was them traded to the Los Angeles Kings for Bob Carpenter the following season. After a few good years in L.A. he was moved to Philadelphia and bounced around for the last couple years of his career.

After his played days were over he went back to the Bruins to coach. He was an assistant and worked in their minor league system before returning to Boston as the head coach. He led the team to a 91-point season in 1995-’96, but then they lost in the first round. The following season they missed the playoffs for the first time in 28 years and he was let go. He would work again in minor league hockey and as a scout elsewhere.

The Score on Steve Kasper – 6.0

Steve has a kind of small signature, especially for the thickness of the marker that he used. I wonder if he used something thinner (which probably wouldn’t have came out as well) if it would be even more condensed. These black Kings uniforms don’t really give him a great place to sign and the best card is probably that 1990 Upper Deck card.

Thanks Mr. Kasper! I’m giving this return a 6 overall.
