The Story of the Autograph

Dave Taylor is a former right wing in the NHL. He played from 1977 to 1994 and spent his entire career in Los Angeles with the Kings.

Taylor is a native of Ontario. He played junior hockey while in high school and then went to college and played at Clarkson University. He still holds records there for points, goals, and assists for both a career and season. The Kings drafted him in the 1975 NHL Draft. After some time in lower leagues he made his debut during the 1977-’78 season.

He was one of the top scorers in the league in his second season when he put up 43 goals and 48 assists for a total of 91 points. He was later a member of the Triple Crown Line with Marcel Dionne and Charlie Simmer, the three all having more than 100 points each. He was the Kings captain as of the 1985 season until Wayne Gretzky got to L.A.. He was an All-Star once in his career and also one the Masterton Trophy as well as the King Clancy for his dedication to the team and his charity work respectively.

After his playing days he was the General Manager of the Kings. He had that position from 1997 to 2006. He moved into a Director of Amateur Development at that time, but he was the winningest GM in Kings history. He would go on to the Dallas Stars and these days the St. Louis Blues front offices.

Oh those black Kings’ uniforms. There’s really not too much Dave could have don better on these. You can see his signature best on the 1990 Score card. It looks like there are some really cool loops he does with his name at the bottom of the “D” and the top of the “T”. And I love how those match up.

Thanks Mr. Taylor! I’m giving this return a 6.
