The Story of the Autograph

Rich Thompson is a former right-handed relief pitcher in the major leagues. He played in three seasons between 1985 and 1990 with the Cleveland Indians and Montreal Expos. He later played in Taiwan with the Wie Chuan Dragons in 1993.

Thompson is a native of New York. He went to Amherst College in Massachusetts where he was drafted in the eighth round of the 1980 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians. After several years in the minors he made his major league debut on April 28, 1985. He played a lot that first year as a rookie, making it into 57 games in relief. But he put op a 3-8 record with 6.30 ERA. At the end of 1985 he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers.

He would be out of the majors for a while. After the Brewers he signed with the Yankees, Expos and Royals before coming back to Montreal in 1989. He earned a few chances in 1989 (19 of them) and then only one in the 1993 season with his last game played on April 22, 1990.

The Score on Rich Thompson – 6.5

Rich has a signature with a lot of action in it. It goes well with the action in the 1986 Topps card, which might be why I like that one the best. He wrote “Trump1” on the outside of the envelope which I wasn’t to fond of. I try not to be political either way, but that’s freedom of speech I guess. Glad he didn’t put it on the cards.

Thanks Mr. Thompson! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
