Review / Preview – Week of 12/5

TTM Review Preview

Blech… it doesn’t feel good when your favorite team loses one of the best players in the sport. Jacob deGrom is a Ranger, that sounds so crappy.

Well, the first reaction is some kind of rationalization. Of course everyone is going to say why it fine that that happened. Or what feels worse, why you didn’t want him anyway. All of that is just excuses. Would you rather have the chance at one of the best pitchers on your team… of course! But no one wants to make it known that it didn’t go your way.

I’m just conflicted. As a Mets fan, regardless of who now owns the team and how things have gone more recently… I always feel like something is going to go wrong. It’s been that way my whole life. So you have to think that Jake is going to get back his touch next season. And honestly I hope he does because that’s good for baseball.

But to be honest with you the thing that I will miss the most and maybe hurts the most (which is probably why people react so negatively) is that I would have rather had a mediocre deGrom stay with the Mets and be the next David Wright type of player who sticks with the club. I would have rather said, “that’s my guy” forever. But now that won’t be the case.

There are just some terrible takes out there and I hate reading them. People feel the need to take a position and say outrageous things. Maybe that’s to get noticed or whatever. But I’m embarrassed read some of it.

I’m trying to take the approach of 1) he’s a starting pitcher so it might only impact 30+ games a year (he was only part of five wins last year our of 101), 2) I’m going to focus on what we have and not what we don’t and know that this can be an even better team next year, and 3) the team is not even done making moves and there’s still fun in that.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend!

The Preview

Here’s what I have coming up for this week:

  • Monday: Newhan v. Oldhan…
  • Tuesday: Romine lettuce…
  • Tuesday: Dane-ish…
  • Wednesday: Wynegar and cheese…
  • Thursday: Heath bar…
  • Friday: Hit me and I’ll say “Owchinko”…
  • Saturday: Justin time…
  • Sunday: Gotta stay away from a joke with this last name…

More of the same and I’ll be digging out the oldest stuff in the backlog. Pretty random stuff actually.

Other Notes

Dang! Back to another down week. Only 10 returns this week on top of four failures. That’s almost a month’s worth of failure based on recent results. I think I am trending toward less going out that I am sure will come back. Or at least sure it will come back sooner. Just disappointing because there was a chance I could get close to last years numbers and I don’t know how close I’ll make it to that.

No stragglers and no paid returns. The failures that came back were Arthur Rhodes, Russ Morman, Winston Garland and Max Venable.

The Recent TTM Success page is updated.

Have a great week!
