The Story of the Autograph

David Newhan is a former major league player. He played a variety of different positions in an eight year career that spanned from 1999 to 2008. During that time he played for the San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets and Houston Astros.

Newhan was born and raised in California. He went on to attend Cypress College, Georgia Tech and then Pepperdine University. He was drafted twice in college. First he was drafted while at Cypress College by the Detroit Tigers in the 49th round of the 1992 MLB Draft, but never signed. Then he was drafted in the 17th round of the 1995 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics. He would never play for the A’s in the majors though. He was traded to the Padres and made his major league debut with them on June 4, 1999.

Newhan bounced around a lot, mostly as a free agent. The best shot he got in the majors was with Baltimore in 2004 and 2005 when he got into over 90 games both of those years. His best year by far was 2004 when he hit .311 with eight homers, 54 RBI, and eleven stolen bases, all career highs.

In more recent years he’s been coaching in the minor leagues. He is the some of Ross Newhan, a long-time baseball writer.

The Score on David Newhan – 6.5

These came out pretty good from David. I think the marker was either dying just a bit or maybe the finish on the cards just didn’t let the marker pick up in a great way. Either way it’s nice to get him in an Orioles uniform because that’s where he had his best years, and a Mets uniform because that’s my favorite team.

Thanks Mr. Newhan! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
