The Story of the Autograph

Reuben Droughns is a former running back in the NFL. He played from 2000 to 2008 with the Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns and New York Giants.

Droughns was born in Chicago, Illinois but grew up in Southern California. He went on to attend Merced Junior College and then played for the Oregon Ducks in 1998 and 1999. The Lions drafted him with their third round pick in the 2000 NFL Draft. He spent his first year on injured reserve after separating a shoulder in the first preseason game and didn’t play all year. He was cut by the Lions the next year and got on Miami’s practice squad and then back to the Lions.

In 2002 he moved on to the Broncos and spend three seasons with them. The first two years he didn’t play much at all and then he broke out in 2004. He put up a 1,240 yard season with six rushing touchdowns and then added 241 yards receiving and two more touchdowns. And even with all that they wouldn’t guarantee he was the starter in 2005 and he asked for a trade.

The Broncos sent him to the Browns where he became the first back to rush for 1,000 yards since Earnest Byner and Kevin Mack in 1985. After another solid season in 2006 he was traded to the Giants. He was part of the Super Bowl XLII championship team even though he was about fourth on the depth chart at running back. He stuck with the team one more year before being cut in February 2009.

Reuben is definitely a guy I don’t have a lot of cards for. I mean, obvious right because I would’ve sent more. But I think I like it that this is a Giants card. If I’m not going to have much for him, I’m glad I got him in a Giants uniform. It looks like he signs his initials and his number, but at least he makes it a pretty good size.

Thanks Mr. Droughns! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
