The Story of the Autograph

Randolph Keys is a former forward in the NBA. He played in seven NBA seasons between 1988 and 1996 with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Charlotte Hornets, Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks. He also played internationally in Italy, France Greece, and Spain; and in the CBA.

Keys is a native of the state of Mississippi. He went to college at Southern Miss and a first round draft pick of the Cavaliers in the 1988 NBA Draft with the 22nd overall pick. He would end up playing about a season and a half in Cleveland. His first season he made it into half of the games and didn’t have any starts.

His second season was the best of his career. He was traded in Febaruary of 1990 to the Charlotte Hornets for a second round pick that would end up being Jimmy Oliver. He ended up starting 18 games with both teams and averaging 8.8 points per game in 20.2 minutes played. After the trade he average 10.5 points per game in Charlotte.

The Hornets waived him after the 1990-’91 season and that started his journey to Europe. He spent the next three seasons out of the NBA and came back starting on a 10-day contract with the Lakers in 1995. During that stint he would be the last player to wear “8” until Kobe Bryant wore the number. In his final season in the NBA he played for the Bucks and then finished out his career internationally.

The Score on Randolph Keys – 6.0

There’s a lot of character to Randolph’s signature, it’s just a little hard to see a good version of it on these. At least that’s the case on the Upper Deck card. The NBA Hopps card does give it a chance. It looks like he just focuses on his last name and his number, but I dig it.

Thanks Mr. Keys! I’m giving this return a 6.
