The Story of the Autograph

Pete Johnson is a former running back in the National Football League. He played from 1977 to 1984 primarily with the Cincinnati Bengals but in his final year he spent time with the Miami Dolphins and San Diego Chargers.

Johnson was born and raised in Georgia. He moved to New York for his senior season though. He then went on to play fullback at Ohio State. He played there with Archie Griffin who one two Heismans while he was there. In 1977 He was drafted by the Bengals with their second round pick, the 49th overall.

He was a big guy who could block and run, becoming the teams leading rusher in all his years in Cincinnati. His career year came in 1981 when he had his only 1,000 yard season. He ran for 1077 yards on 274 carries with 12 touchdowns. He added 46 receptions for 320 yards and another four touchdowns to that as well. That earned him his one and only Pro Bowl appearance.

In 1984 he was traded to the San Diego Chargers for James Brooks and at the time was their all-time rushing leader. He only played the first three games in San Diego before heading to Miami for the rest of the season.

These came back looking pretty good from Pete. I didn’t realize how many of those “In Action” cards I had signed from that set. I think there are a few I could pay for if I really wanted to go for that. I think that is my favorite of these from Pete but you can see there’s a little bit of the ink smudged off.

Thanks Mr. Johnson! I’m giving this return a 6.
