The Story of the Autograph

Mark Chmura, or “Chewy”, is a former tight end in the NFL. He played for the Green Bay Packers for his entire career from 1992 to 1999.

Chmura was born and raised in Deerfield, Massachusetts. He went to Boston College and had some great seasons there before being drafted in the sixth round of the 1992 NFL Draft by the Packers. He didn’t start at all in his first season and then only had four starts in his second season. But in 1993 he got an opportunity and took it. He had what was probably the best season of his career with 679 yards on 75 receptions and seven touchdowns.

Later in his career, after the 1996 season, he helped the Packers reach and win the Super Bowl. He score the last points of the game with a two-point conversion. He had four catches for 43 yards and a touchdown in the game.

Unfortunately Chmura’s career was cut short by a neck injury. He herniated two discs and was released by the Pack. He tried to make a comeback but the injury never went away and came back during a workout and he retied. He finished his career third in franchise history among tight ends.

After playing Chmura worked on a Packers pregame show, he hosts a radio show and he worked as a coach for his sons high school team.

The Score on Mark Chmura – 5.5

Mark has a fine signature but these cards didn’t do him any favors. The Playoff card is really dark. It actually looks better in the picture than live. On the other, it’s smudged and there’s a finger print on it so that hurts the score. If I can find a better card his signature would probably come out pretty sweet.

Thanks Mr. Chmura! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
