The Story of the Autograph

Lynn Dickey is a former quarterback in the National Football League. He played from 1971 to 1985 with the Houston Oilers and Green Bay Packers.

Dickey is a native of Kansas. He led his high school team to a state championship and then went on to attend Kansas State University. He was tenth in the Heisman voting as a senior and named MVP of the North-South Shrine Game in 1971. The Oilers then drafted him with a third round pick in the 1971 NFL Draft.

He played for the Oilers for four seasons and was a back up. He split time with Dan Pastorini who was drafted ahead of him in the first round in the same year. An injury in the preseason (he had a lot in his career) put him on the back foot though. He never started more than four games in a season while with the Oilers.

In 1976 he was traded to the Green Bay Packers for John Hadl. He continued to suffer injuries, like a broken leg in 1977, and was out for some seasons completely. But he was starting again by 1980. He helped the Packers to the playoffs in the strike-shortened season of 1982. His best season came in 1983 when he passed for 4,458 yards and 32 touchdowns. He also had 29 intercenptions, all league leading. But that earned him som MVP and Player of the Year votes. He retired in 1986 after he was released after training camp.

The Score on Lynn Dickey – 5.5

This is a tough one because it looks like Lynn has a nice signature. It’s that dark green Packers jersey that just gets in the way. This might be one of my favorite football designs of the 70’s so I think that helps in how I look at the rating too. Plus, that hair, am i right?

Thanks Mr. Dickey! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
