The Story of the Autograph

Kelenna Azubuike is a former shooting guard and small forward in the NBA. He played from 2007 to 2012 with the Golden State Warrios and Dallas Mavericks.

Azubuike was born in London, England to Nigerian parents. His family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma for his father’s career (a doctor). He helped his high school team to a state title as a sophomore and he was a great high school player during that time. He went on to play for Kentucky under Tubby Smith. While there he helped the Wildcats win two SEC titles, two SEC tournament titles, and two NCAA Elite Eight appearances.

He didn’t get drafted and went to play in the NBA’s developmental league with the Fort Worth Flyers. He would try to make it with the Nuggets and Rockets before signing with the Warriors in 2007. He spent four years with Golden State, playing in 41, 81, 74 and then 9 games with the team from 2006 to 2010. He tore his patellar tendon and missed the last of the ’09-’10 season and the following season. He was traded to the Knicks but never played a game for them and was waved.

He was signed by the Mavericks in 2012 but only three games with them and mostly played with their minor league team the Texas Legends. He was traded to the Cavaliers during the 2012 NBA Draft, but was waived by them in October of that year and never played another game.

In more recent years Azubuike has been a broadcaster in college and the NBA, most recently for the Warriors and on San Francisco area broadcasts. He is involved in many humanitarian causes, particularly those involving Africa and his Christian faith.

The Score on Kelenna Azubuike – 6.5

I was really surprised that I had cards of Kelenna. I’ve never collected a whole lot of basketball and only have a little bit of cards from this time. Plus he didn’t play that much professionally in the grand scheme. But I really remember his time at Kentucky. Those were some fun teams to watch and I remember him improving during his time there.

Thanks Mr. Azubuike! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
