The Story of the Autograph

Jimmy Carson is a former center in the NHL. He played from 1986 to 1996 with the Los Angeles Kings (twice), Edmonton Oilers, Detroit Red Wings, Vancouver Canucks, and Hartford Whalers.

Carson is a native of Michigan. He played witht he Detroit Compuware minor ice hockey team as a kid and later played with the Verdun Junior Canadiens. He was drafted int he first round with the second overall pick of the draft by the Los Angeles Kings in 1986. Then as an 18-year-old rookie he scored 37 goals and made the All-Rookie team. As if that wasn’t enough, he score 55 goals in his second season becoming only the second teenager (the first being Wayne Gretzky) to break 50 goals in a season.

At the end of that season he was part of a huge trade that send he and Martin Gelinas, plus three first round picks and $15 million dollars in cash to the Oilers for Wayne Gretzky, Marty McSorley and Mike Krushelnyski. He demaded a trade from Edmonton in 1989 and he went to his hometown team, the Red Wings. In return the Oilers received Adam Graves, Petr Klima, Joe Murphy and Jeff Sharples. They were a huge help to Edmonton as they won a fifth Stanley Cup in 1990.

He would return to the Kings and play with Gretzky later, but by that time he was no longer scoring at the same rate he once did and never topped 20 goals after 1993. When his NHL career ended in 1996 he played with the Detroit Vipers of the IHL for a couple years before hanging up his skates.

The Score on Jimmy Carson – 6.5

Jimmy has sort of boxy signature. Sure it’s more round, but you could fit it in a sort of square and that’s not like a lot of other people. I find it interesting that the 1991 Pro Set card is a bit bigger of a signature of the others. I’m not quite sure why because it doesn’t look like he tried to find a place to sign where it shows it off and he just went right over that black box.

Thanks Mr. Carson! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
