The Story of the Autograph

Jim Les is a former guard in the NBA and currently an NCAA head coach. He played in the NBA between 1988 and 1995 with the Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Clippers, Sacramento Kings and Atlanta Hawks.

Les is a native of Illinois. He went to college at both Cleveland State and Bradley. Upon graduating he had the second most assists in NCAA history. The Hawks then drafted him in the thrid round of the 1986 NBA Draft. But before he could make it on the team the Hawks waived him. He signed with the 76ers but was waived before playing a game. So he went on to play in the CBA for his first couple of seasons.

He finally made his way to Utah and played with the Jazz in the 1988-89 season. He would continue to bounce around between the NBA and CBA throughout his career. In 1992 he did enter the three-point competition and finished second to Craig Hodges. Before he called it a career he played in Spain for a year.

He went into coaching even as he was a player in the CBA in 1994. So it made sense that he would go into that not too long after his playing days. He started as an assistant coach with the Sacramento Monarchs. Since 2002 he’s coached in the college ranks, first with his alma mater Bradley, and more recently at UC Davis.

The Score on Jim Les – 6.5

For one of the shortest names that I can remember with just six letters, Jim certainly has a big signature. He puts a ton of ink on your cards. The blue of the marker goes really well with that era’s Kings uniforms. It’s just oto bad that basketball cards and their busy images get in the way.

Thanks Mr. Les! I’m giving this return a 6.5
