The Story of the Autograph

Harold Baines is a Hall of Fame former outfielder and designated hitter in MLB. He played from 1980 to 2001 with the Chicago White Sox (three times), Texas Rangers, Oakland Athletics, Baltimore Orioles (three times), and the Cleveland Indians.

Baines was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The White Sox drafted Baines in 1977 out of high school with the first overall pick of the MLB Draft. Unfortunately he received a record low signing bonus for a first overall pick. But three years later he made his debut on April 10, 1980, starting on Opening Day for the White Sox.

He had a long career but early on, injuries he battled through limited his time as a fielder. In 1986 knee problems forced him into more of a designated hitter role for his career. Baines was a six-time All-Star (1985-1987, 1989, 1991, 1999), a Silver Slugger Award winner in 1989 and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019. That was a bit of an oddity in that he had never received more than 6.1% of the vote in any one year and was dropped from the ballot in 2011. He was voted in by the “Today’s Game Committee.” But he did have some great years in baseball, that can’t be denied.

The Score on Harold Baines – 6.0

Harold has become a pretty consistent signer for people. I provided a donation for my request this time that I hadn’t in the past (a long time ago). One thing I did with this reques was try to catch him on some of the teams he played with. The Rangers is a bit less significant a team as far as his time goes, but it was a card I had to expand the request.

Thanks Mr. Baines! I’m giving this return a 6.
