The Story of the Autograph

Craig Paquette is a former third baseman and outfielder in the major leagues. He played for eleven seasons from 1993 to 2003 for the Oakland Athletics, Kansas City Royals, New York Mets, St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers.

Paquette is a native of Long Beach, California. He was first drafted out of high school in the 36th round of the 1987 MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins but never signed. He then played college baseball at Golden West College and two years later was drafted by the A’s in the eighth round of the 1989 MLB Draft.  He made his major league de but on June 1, 1993.

His first season he got a good amount of playing time. He played in 105 games and got over 400 at bats. Unfortunately it only resulted in a .219 average. He played only lightly in 1994 and was back for another 105 games in 1995 where he improved his after only slightly. He moved on to Kansas City where he played in 118 games, got his average up to over .250 and hit a career high 22 homers.

He moved on to the Mets in 1998 but only played in seven games and was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals for Shawon Dunston. He had some really good years in St. Louis including 2001 when he hit over .280 with 15 homers and then closed his career out in Detroit.

The Score on Craig Paquette – 6.5

It almost looks like Craig’s name is just written as either a quirky “S” or maybe even some kind of “G”. I get how craig comes out of it. He was able to do a pretty good job of sneaking it into that 1992 Topps prospects card though. It looks like he signs in a way that lets him shrink it pretty well. I definitely appreciate when players take the space alotted to them on a card like that.

Thanks Mr. Paquette! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
