The Story of the Autograph

Jim Vatcher is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played in the majors from 1990 to 1992 for the Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres.

Vatcher was born and raised in southern California. He first went to West Los Angeles College before transferring to Cal State Northridge. As a senior he was voted to the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association First Team and a Division II All-America. But he never got much interested from scouts because he was only 5’8″. But the Phillies chose him in the 20th round of the 1987 MLB Draft.

After some time in the minors he made his major league debut on May 30, 1990. But he wasn’t in Philly very long at all. In August of that same season he was sent to the Braves with Jeff Parrett as the player to be named later in the Dale Murphy trade. Before the beginning of the next season he was taken off waivers by the San Diego Padres but still mostly played in the minors for them and made his last major league appearance on October 4, 1992.

After 1992 he spent time in the minor with the Phillies, Padres, and Mets and hen went on to play independent minor league baseball and finally from 1999 to 2001 played in the Italian Baseball League.

Jim has a really nice signature. I think I like it best on either the 1991 Score card or the 1992 Topps Stadium Club card. The marker he used is really nice and overall his signatures are really consistent across the cards.

Thanks Mr. Vatcher! I’m giving this return a 7 overall.
