The Story of the Autograph

Criag Chamberlain is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played during the 1979 and 1980 seasons and spent that time with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Chamberlain is a native of California. He first went to Long Beach City College where he was drafted by the Mets in the 19th round of the 1977 MLB Draft. He stayed in school and didn’t sign but then eventually wen to the University of Arizona. From there he was drafted again with the second overall pick of the draft in the 1978 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals.

Chamberlain only played in ten games that first season after making his debut on August 12, 1979. He went 4-4 with a 3.75 ERA in ten games, all of them starts. That year he came in immediately to a pennant chase with the Royals. He had two great starts to get going and then his third with the Red Sox was not as great as the others. He lost the last three games he pitched that season and the Royals didn’t make it to the playoffs.

The following season the Royals would capture their first AL Pennant. However, Champberlain only pitched in five games in relief all season and went 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA. These would be his last appearances in the majors ever with his last game being on September 28, 1980.

Craig is all about those “Cs”. I do like a name with somehting repetitive like that and he certainly uses it to his advantage. Is it immediately readable, maybe not, but I think it is recognizable. It has a good style and he definitely fills your card.

Thanks Mr. Chamberlain! I’m giving this return a 7.
