The Story of the Autograph

Vance Johnson is a former wide receiver in the National Football League. He played from 1985 to 1995 with the Denver Broncos, making a stop in San Diego in 1994, but never appearing in a regular season game with them.

Johnson is a native of New Jersey and played his college football for the Wildcats of the University of Arizona. There he was a multi-purpose threat mostly playing at running back. He was also a great long jumper and in 1982 he won the NCAA Championship and the gold in the Junior Pan American games. He just missed making the 1984 U.S. Olympic team when he finished fourth in the trials.

The Broncos drafted Johnson in the second round of the 1985 NFL draft with the 31st overall pick. He was a big part of the Broncos teams that reach three Super Bowls during his time there. Unfortunately all of them were losses. His career year was in 1989 when he caught 76 passes for 1,095 yards and seven touchdowns. That was the heart of a pretty good three year run for him.

After his playing days he admitted to abusing his ex-wife and others. He lost his son in 2007 in a motor cycle accident and he had addiction issues throughout his life. He reported being sober as of 2013 and currently is an advocate for recovering addicts and has the Vance Johnson Recovery Center in Las Vegas.

The Score on Vance Johnson – 7.5

Vance has a pretty cool signature. There’s so many things to live about it, but I’m really glad that these cards let him show it off too. I think my favorite might be that 1990 Score card because of the pose after scoring a touchdown. But I also like the 1991 Pro Set card because of the catch.

Thanks Mr. Johnson! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
