The Story of the Autograph

Tony Woods is a former Linebacker and Defensive End. He played in the NFL from 1987 through 1996 and spent time with the Seahawks, Rams, and Redskins.

Woods was born and raised in New Jersey. He went to high school at Seton Hall Prep and played in two consecutive championship games with his junior year being part of an undefeated team. He went to college at Pittsburgh and then was drafted by into the USFL. He is actually the last player drafted by the USFL as he had one year of eligibility left and was the 92nd pick in the 12th round of the 1986 USFL Draft. But the league folded before he played.

The Seahawks then took him with the 18th overall pick in the first round of the 1987 NFL Draft making him the first player from New Jersey ever taken in the first round. He spent 1987 through 1992 in Seattle and racked up 16 sacks in that time. His career year was his second year in the league when he posts five sacks and 141 tackles.

He closed out his playing career after a year with the Rams and then another three with the Redskins where he almost reached his single season career high sack total again with 4.5. More recently Tony was a high school and college coach. Currently he coaches at Seton Hall Prep.

Tony has a big signature and I like that. One of these pretty much got destroyed though and I bet that happened in the envelope when it wasn’t dry. I think those 1991 Pacific cards rarely dry well and of course then it rubs up against another card and puts in on the back of that one. It’s hard to see in the pictures but another was had a smudge/swipe too.

Thanks Mr. Woods! I’m giving this return a 4.
