The Story of the Autograph

Tony Hrkac is a Canadian former ice hockey player in the NHL. He played from 1987 to 2003 with several teams: St. Louis Blues (twice), Quebec Nordiques, San Jose Sharks, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars (twice), Edmonton Oilers, New York Islanders, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, and Atlanta Thrashers.

Hrkac is a native of Ontario. He was drafted by the Blues in the second round of the 1984 NHL Draft and then played collegiately at the University of North Dakota before going to the NHL. While in school he won the Hobey Baker Award in the 1986-’87 season. He won a National Championship and holds the NCAA single-season points mark with 116.

He debuted for the Blues in the 1987 NHL Playoffs. He spent two and a half seasons in St. Louis before being moved to Quebec and htat was the start of a lot of moving around. In fact he spent the most time with one team in that first stint with the Blues, otherwise not playing in more than two full seasons with any team.

His first two season were probably his best when he put up 48 and 45 points for the year. He set his career high in assists in his rookie year with 37 and almost his career high in goals in his second year with 17. He would have two more 40+ point seasons in 1990-’91 with the Nordiques (48 points) and then in 2001-’02 with the Thrashers (44 points) when he score a career high 18 goals.

He played in the minors with the Milwaukee Admirals after his final NHL season, just in case he could get back to the NHL. But in doing so he helped them win the Calder Cup. He came out of retirement in 2008 to play for the Houston Aeros of the AHL. He later became the first men’s hockey coach at Concordia University Wisconsin.

The Score on Tony Hrkac – 6.5

Tony is a guy that appeard in a lot of jerseys so it might be a challenge to get him in all of them. Especially because I didn’t collect across his whole career. I think I have found some other cards of his that I will use in another attempt, but that might only get me one of him in a Sharks jersey. This return is pretty good, but the blue on blue doesn’t help him at all.

Thanks Mr. Hrkac! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
