The Story of the Autograph

Storm Davis played in the Major Leagues as mostly a right-handed starting pitcher and finished his career as a relief pitcher. He pitched on some pretty good teams in his career and was lucky enough to be part of two World Championship teams. He played in Baltimore (twice), San Diego, Oakland (twice), Kansas City, and Detroit.

Davis was drafted by the Orioles in the seventh round of the 1979 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut in April of 1982 with the Orioles and had a pretty good rookie season. His next three years in Baltimore he would have a winning record each year and went 13-7 wit a 3.59 ERA in 1983 when the Orioles won the World Series against the Phillies. He won Game 4 in that series to help the birds.

Six years and two teams later Davis would be in Oakland and helping out the A’s during the Bash Brothers era. Davis went 16-7 wit a 3.70 ERA in 1988 and helped the Athletics to the World Series. Unfortunately he would lose two games in that Series and the Athletics lost to the Dodgers. He followed that up with the best year of his career with a 19-7 record in 1989. That was a big year for the Athletics as they would face the Giants in the World Series and beat them. But Davis didn’t get to start a game in the Series. That was the year that the Loma Prieta earthquake delayed the Series by 10 days. Tony La Russa decided to skip Davis in the rotation and go back to his top starters. Davis was publicly not happy with that and was a free agent at the end of the season.

Storm has a good signature and it really sticks out on most of these cards. I like the 1986 Topps card the best, but it’s hard not to like cards from a players best years in the majors too. He has a pretty consistent signature from what I’ve seen. I’m sure I have plenty of his cards so I know I’ll send to him again in the future.

Thanks Mr. Davis! These get a 7 from me.
