The Story of the Autograph

Ricky Bones played as a right-handed starting and relief pitcher in the majors over 11 years. He played for the Padres, Brewers, Yankees, Reds, Royals, Orioles and Marlins. He spent the longest stint (5 years) in Milwaukee and made the All-Star team during his time there. These days he’s the bullpen coach for the Mets.

The Padres signed Bones as a free agent in May of 1986. He toiled in the minors for a bit and made his major league debut in August of 1991 against the Cincinnati Reds pitching a 2 hitter over seven innings for his first victory. The next year in March he was traded to the Brewers in the deal that sent Gary Sheffield to the Padres.

He had what is probably his best professional season in 1994 with the Brewers going 10-9 with a 3.43 ERA. That was good enough to earn him a spot on the AL All-Star team that year. He was traded once more after that to the Yankees, but only played four games in New York. He moved around to a bunch of other teams as a free agent and retired in 2001 after the Marlins granted him free agency.

The Score on Ricky Bones – 7.5

Ricky has a pretty good signature and he signs with a good marker. I think this one could have even been better given the right card to sign. He’s signed multiple cards for me in the past, however this time he only returned one back. Just know that going in if you send to him that his signing habits may have changed.

Thanks Mr. Bones! I’m giving this one a 7.5.
