The Story of the Autograph

Shane Carle is a right-handed relieve pitcher in the major leagues. His career in the majors began with Colorado in 2017 and he is currently on the roster of the Texas Rangers.

Carle is a native of California. He played college baseball at Cabrillo College and Cal State Long Beach. He was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 10th round of the 2013 MLB Draft. He never made it to the majors with the Pirates as they traded him to the Rockies after the 2014 season. He made his major league debut with the Rockies three years later on April 14, 2017.

After pitching in only three games for the Rockies in 2017 they put him on waivers and he was claimed by the Pirates. He never played a game with them as twelve days after they signed him he was sent to the Atlanta Braves. He made the Opening Day roster in 2018 and had a pretty good season. He went 4-1 with a 2.86 ERA in 53 games. He made the Opening Day roster again last season but had a rough go of it including an ejection for what appeared to be a retaliatory HBP on Rhys Hoskins.

Carle was designated for assignment by the Braves on July 24th of last season and was traded to the Rangers the next day. The Rangers designated him for assigned a month later and he didn’t pitch in the majors for the rest of last season.

Shane has a pretty crazy autograph that is almost a mixed up “heartbeat.” That’s what I would refer to an autograph that just kind of up-and-down like a heart monitor in a hospital. But it does a lot more than that. He used a good marker and it has a pretty good size.

Thanks Mr. Carle! I’m giving this return a 6.
