The Story of the Autograph
Rufus Porter is a former linebacker and defensive end in the National Football League. His career spanned from 1988 to 1997 and during that time he played for the Seattle Seahawks, New Orleans Saints, and Tampa Bay Bucanneers.
Porter is a Louisiana native. After going to high school in Baton Rouge he stayed in town and attended Southern University. He went undrafted and signed with the Seahawks in 1988. He made an immediate impact and earned Pro Bowl nods in his first two years in the league. In 1989 he had a career high 10.5 sacks.
He suffered a major groin injury during the 1990 season which impacted his playing time and numbers. But he came back to put up a 10 sack and 9.5 sack season in 1991 and 1992. He stayed in Seattle through 1994 and then moved on to New Orleans and Tampa Bay.
These days he operates a non-profit organization called 8to80 that focuses on building healthy lives in the Baton Rouge area.

I love finding new guys to get signatures from and Rufus is one of my more recent finds. I have a good amount of cards for him so it meant there was some good stuff to choose from. All of these really show off his signature well. I also realized how much I really love the old Seahawks uniforms. It makes for some interesting colors on the cards too. It almost looks like he messes up his signature with the crossing of the “t” so I’m not sure what that is, but it’s consistent.
