The Story of the Autograph

Rob Ramage is a former defenseman in the National Hockey League. He played from 1979 to 1994 with the Colorado Rockies, St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs, Minnesota North Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens and Philadelphia Flyers.

Ramage was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. He played junior hockey with the London Knights, earning a share of the OHL’s Max Kaminsky Trophy for the leagues best defenseman. He then went on to the WHL’s Birmingham Bulls because he just missed the age cutoff of the NHL but the WHL would allow him to be drafted. Then in 1979 he was taken by the Colorado Rockies with the first overall pick.

He played three seasons in Colorado and in his first became he became part of history. In a fluke play in which he made a back pass that went in his team’s net it resulted in a goal for Islanders goaltender Billy Smith, the first time a goaltender was credited with a goal. But he also earned an All-Star appearance in his second season there.

He was traded to the Blues for a first round pick and became a very skilled defenseman there. He put up a career high 66 points (then a team record for a defenseman) during the 1985-86 season and he would have four years of All-Star appearances while in St. Louis.

After St. Louis he moved around a whole lot. He never spent any more than two seasons with any team. But he was part of Stanley Cup Championship teams with Flames in 1988-89 and the Canadiens in 1992-93.

The Score on Rob Ramage – 5.5

The curse of the dark and busy hockey card has struck again. While there isn’t much to Rob’s signature and it’s a bit small anyway, these cards sure don’t help him out. The dark Toronto jersey and the busy nature of these cards is just not doing any favors.

Thanks Mr. Ramage! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
