The Story of the Autograph

Bob Heise is a former infielder in the major leagues. He played from 1967 to 1977 with the New York Mets, San Francisco Giants, Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals, California Angels, Boston Red Sox, and Kansas City Royals.

Heise was born in San Antonio, Texas. As a child of a military family he moved a lot but spent most of his time as a kid in California. He played on some very successful teams in high school and in the American Legion Leagues. He went on to Solano Community College and the Mets signed him as an amateur free agent in February 1965. He was pretty good in the minors and made his major league debut on September 12, 1967. While he was with the Mets organization in their run to the World Series in 1969, he only made it up to the big club for a few games during those years and wasn’t in the majors then.

The Mets traded him tot he Giants after the 1969 season. After 80 games in a season and a half there he was traded to the Brewers where he got some of the most significant time in the majors with any team. He played 95 games in 1972 and his .266 with no home runs (he only hit one career homer in 1970 with the Giants) and 12 RBI. He bounce around to the Cardinals, Angels, Red Sox and Royals, but never play in more than 63 games in a season like he did in 1975 with the Red Sox.

The Score on Bob Heise – 5.5

This is such an odd card. Bob was with the Giants in 1970, but this is an airbrushed picture of him with what would have been a Mets cap. The blue with the Giants on the card seems weird. His signature is very small. I’m not sure if that’s because he avoids his face or if it’s always small.

Thanks Mr. Heise! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
