The Story of the Autograph

Rick Bosetti is a former centerfielder in the major leagues. He played from 1976 to 1982 with the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays, and Oakland Athletics.

Bosetti is a native of California. He attended Shasta College and from there was drafted by the Phillies in the seventh round of the 1973 MLB Draft. He made his first appearance for them on September 9, 1976. He played in 13 games before that season ended. The next season he was traded mid-year with Dane Iorg and Tom Underwood to the Cardinals for Bake McBride and Steve Waterbury. He played in just that one year with them and got into 41 games.

The Cardinals traded him to the Blue Jays and he spent the most significant portion of his career with the Toronto. In 1979 he made it into all 162 games and hit .260 with eight homers and 65 RBI. Those are all career highs which would you would think since it was the most games he could possibly play in. He never played in more than 53 for a season after than and it declined each remaining year of his career.

Interestingly, or disgustingly maybe, he urinated in the outfield of every major league park that existed during his time in the majors.

Rick’s signature sure matched his signature on that 1982 Topps card. It’s a somewhat standard signature, but it has some pieces that give it some character. The 1981 Topps card is probably my favorite because of the blue signature with the Toronto uniform. Especially with those baby blues on.

Thanks Mr. Bosetti! I’m giving this return a 6.
