The Story of the Autograph

Rex Hudler is a former major leaguer used mostly as a utility player with the Yankees, Orioles, Expos, Cardinals, Angels and Phillies. He even played in Japan in 1993 where he was part of a championship team. During his career he played at every position except for pitcher and catcher. Originally a first round draft pick of the Yankees in 1978, he first appeared with them in the majors in 1984.

Rex only played 100+ games once in his career and that was in 1991 with the Cardinals where he played 101 games. When you look at his career stats, he had a bit more speed in his early career with a career high 29 steals in 77 games in 1998 with Montreal. The later in his career he hit better. With California in the mid 90’s he hit .311 with 16 home runs and 40 RBI in 92 games.

During his career he had two nicknames. He was primarily known as “Wonderdog” after a character from the Super Friends animated television series. But later in his career he earned the moniker “Bug Eater.” During his time in St. Louis he picked a bug off his cap and Tom Pagnozzi dared him to eat it. He got some others on the team involved and they paid him $800 to eat the bug. Of course he ate it, otherwise he wouldn’t be Bug Eater.

These days Rex is a broadcaster with the Kansas City Royals. He worked for the Angels prior to that.

The Score on Rex Hudler – 8.0

Rex has a really nice signature. I like how he max his “R” a really good size with a big loop almost so that he catches his signature in the loop. They are somewhat consistent although there’s a little bit of difference in each one. They all use a good marker though and they are a good size.

Thanks Mr. Hudler! These get an 8.
