This week my hobby focus got back to another round of pulling cards, writing letters and planning for what’s going to go out. Maybe it was serendipitous, but there was some Twitter talk about how everyone gets things out.
My process is really to prep major amounts of work that will potentially last me weeks and then get all that out little by little. My hope is that this mean consistent successes when they come back. I don’t know if that’s always the case, especially lately, but it certainly feels that way for the most part.
I think the last time I planned pretty much several months worth of what I would send. Then I write all the letters in bulk over a few weeks as I watch games or just TV in general (or even as I wait for my kid to pick them up from things). Then when I get to sending them out, I send about two a day. There are times when I go over that though.
I think I have to get better as seeing the trends and rolling with them. But usually the way I do it also protects me from just regular life (usually work though) getting in the way and then potentially not sending anything for a little while (which has happened in the past).
Hope everybody is doing well and staying healthy!
The Review
Here’s what happened on the blog last week:
- Monday: Jack Daugherty
- Tuesday: frank LaCorte, Pete O’Brien
- Wednesday: Wilbur Howard
- Thursday: George Wright, Card Thoughts: 1989 Donruss – Taste the Rainbow!
- Friday: Walt Suggs
- Saturday: Doug Cosbie
- Sunday: Mike Stanley
#lonestarstate week was pretty diverse from a year perspective, a sport perspective and a team perspective. As diverse as I can get it from recent cards, so that’s a little luck of the draw. But when my theme is a larger like a state… I like it to mean it fits more in rather than it just means one team.
What I think I am happiest with is that I finally got out another Card Thoughts post though.
The Preview
Here’s what I have coming up for this week:
- Monday: From the “Scrap” heap…
- Tuesday: One of probably many “Hitting Machines”…
- Tuesday: Do you hear “Thunder”?
- Wednesday: You might find him at the zoo…
- Thursday: One TTM success… ah, ah, ah…
- Friday: Buck up little guy…
- Saturday: Maybe he chops…
- Sunday: Not one month and not three months…
I have a bit of a surprise for the theme next week, but it’s not all written up yet. So I hope I can meet what I’m posting above. I’m going away from the state themes because I’ve exhausted what I have at this point. Hopefully next week will be fun and maybe you’ll see something you didn’t know or be reminded of something you hadn’t thought about in a while.
Other Notes
This was a very solid week. I got 13 total returns and now my backlog is at 273. There were a couple big surprises in that I got two Spring Training successes back. One wasn’t necessarily a surprise because it was someone who I had gotten back before. The surprise there was more that I got it back now. The second was someone who I hadn’t ever tried and it was nice to see it come back (a World Series winner to boot).
Stay safe and healthy out there!
