The Story of the Autograph

Rafael Novoa is a former pitcher in the major leagues. The left-hander played in the 1990 season with the San Francisco Giants and in the 1993 season with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Novoa is a native New Yorker. He went to Villanova where he received All-Tournament honors for the Wildcats in the 1987 Big East Conference Baseball Tournament. The Giants drafted him in the ninth round of the 1989 MLB Draft. He would make his major league debut for them the following season on July 31, 1990.

He never played very much in the majors during his two stints in the majors leagues. The Giants only had him appear in seven games, two of them starts and he put up an 0-1 record with a 6.75 ERA and a save over 18.2 innings. They sent him back to the minors and he was released in March of 1992.

The Brewers signed him a month later and gave him a bit more of a chance, but he still couldn’t win a game with them. He pitched to a 0-3 record and 4.50 ERA in 15 games with seven starts for Milwaukee. He was back in the minors the following season. In December of 1993 he was traded with Mike Carter, another minor leaguer, to the Cubs for Bob Scanlon but he would never make it up to the majors again.

Rafael is another great example of a guy who has a great signature-to-career ratio. He puts a ton of ink on your card and the way that he circles and swirls everything together is pretty cool. I’m not sure what letter the circles and swirls come from, but you could say this is “signature” for him.

Thanks Mr. Novoa! I’m giving this return a 7 overall.
