The Story of the Autograph

Ken Ryan is a former pitcher in the major leagues. He played as a relief pitcher for the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies from 1992 to 1999.

Ryan is a native New Englander. He was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and went to high school in Seekonk, Massachusetts. His “hometown” Red Sox signed him as an undrafted free agent in 1986 after he finished high school. He would make his major league debut with them on August 31, 1992 after six years in their minor league system.

From 1992 to 1995 he would mostly split time from the majors to the minors. The most games he appeared in were 47 in 1993 when he went 7-2 with a 3.60 ERA in 50 innings. He appeared in 40+ games the following season too but his appearances continued on a downward trend.

In 1996, before Spring Training, he was traded with Glenn Murray and Lee Tinsley to the Phillies for two minor leaguers and Heathcliff Slocumb. He pitched in a career high 62 games that year with a 3-5 record and 2.43 ERA. While he stayed with the Phillies through the 1999 season, he never appeared in more than 22 games in a season after that. He signed with the Pirates and Yankees after that but never appeared for them.

These days he has runs the KR Baseball Academy in Rhode Island.

The Score on Ken Ryan – 6.5

BraveSTARR Score LogoBraveSTARR Score 6.5

Ken has a pretty standard signature. It came out really, really strong on the 1995 Pinnacle card because of how bright that card is. The others have a bunch of dark on them though and it doesn’t really give the signature a chance to shine.

Thanks Mr. Ryan! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
