The Story of the Autograph

Pat Corrales played in the major leagues as a catcher from 1964-1973. He spent time with Phillies, Cardinals, Reds and Padres. He also coached and managed after his playing days. He managed for the Rangers, Phillies and Indians. Since these are managers I’ll try to stick to his managing days for this post.

After Corrales’ time in the majors he went to work as a coach for the Rangers in 1976. He became the Rangers manager in 1978 and in doing so became the first major league manager of Mexican-American descent. The Ranger went 160-164 with Corrales at the helm through 1980.

He moved on to Philadelphia in 1982. While in Philly in 1983 the team had a record of 43-42 and Corrales was fired. That made him the first manager to ever be fired while in first place. He was 132-115 during his time in Philly. Then he moved on to the Indians from 1983-1987 and lead them to a 280-355 record during that time.

Pat has a tiny little autograph. These are better than a previous return from him that was in ball point though. He doesn’t really mind where he signs in general. That’s not always a bad thing because some take it too far, but on some of these he just signed over a busy spot on the card.

Thanks Mr. Corrales! I’m giving these a 4.5 overall.
