The Story of the Autograph

Nate Robertson played as a left-handed pitcher from 2002 to 2010. He played for the Marlins, Tigers, and Phillies, but the vast majority of his nine year career (seven years of it) was spent in Detroit.

After being born and raised in Kansas (if you can’t tell by one of the cards he signed), Robertson then went to school at Wichita State University. From there he was drafted in 1999 by the Florida Marlins. He was really successful during his time in their minor league system and worked his way up to his debut on September 8, 2002. His first appearance was as a starter but he was moved to the bullpen for the rest of his appearances that year. Prior to the next season he was traded to Detroit.

The Tigers started Robertson out in their minor league system and he was back in the majors in late 2003. He fared much better in what would be his second major league start and first with the Tigers, but didn’t get his first win until eleven days later against the White Sox. In 2006 the Tigers went to the postseason and he picked up a victory against the Athletics in Game one of the ALCS as the Tigers went on to their first pennant since 1984. Before ending his time in Detroit the moved him to the bullpen.

Robertson jumped around from there and tried to make it with a few different clubs. He did in Florida and Philly, but ultimately he hung up his cleats in 2013 after trying to make it with the Tigers again.

The Score on Nate Robertson – 5.5

I think I like Nat’s autograph more than this score lets on, but the cards definitely get in the way on this one. I always love getting autos on Heritage because they take an autograph well, but in this case the facsimile signature doesn’t help. Nor does the black glove. I like the A&G card especially the type of card it is and that he still lives in his home state. I don’t know if I have other cards for him to sign but it I do I’ll have to try him again.

Thanks Mr. Robertson! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
