The Story of the Autograph

Mike Fischlin played in the major leagues from 1977 through 1987. He played as a shortstop and second baseman for four teams: Astros, Indians, Yankees, and Braves.

Fischlin grew up in California and was drafted by the Yankees in the seventh round of the 1975 MLB Draft. He was traded to the Astros before he appeared as a Yankee in a deal that sent him westward on June 15, 1977. He made his debut for the Astros as a September call-up later that year on September 3, 1977. He appeared in 13 games that year and 44 in 1978. He went back down to the minors and came up for one at bat again in the 1980 season.

The Astros traded him to the Indians in April of 1981. He only played more than 100 games once and that was during those five years he spent in Cleveland. In 1982 he played all over the infield and even made an appearance at catcher and played three innings. He batted .268 with 21 RBI and nine stolen bases. The Indians would trade him to the Yankees where he played some in 1986 and then he played for the Braves.

After his time in the majors he managed in the minor leagues and in between seasons played in the Venezuelan Winter League. He was one of Scott Boras’ first clients and currently works for Boras as his VP of player development.

Mike has a pretty cool signature. I’ve always loved the style of “F” that he uses. Another thing I like about his signature is that it kind of has a hill feel too it. Its kind of shorter on the ends and high in the middle. I need to remember next time to not send any duplicates because he kept those. I don’t know if he usually only signs three or doesn’t sign dupes. Either way, I would probably only send three to him if I send again.

Thanks Mr. Fischlin! I’m giving this return a 6.
