The Story of the Autograph

Mike Fiers is a right-handed starting pitcher currently with the Oakland Athletics. He’s been in the league since 2011 and previously pitched for the Brewers, Astros, and Tigers.

Fiers was born and raised in Florida and bounced around to a few colleges before being drafted by the Brewers in the 22nd round of the 2009 MLB Draft. After a couple years in the minors he was called up on September 10, 2011 and made his first appearance a couple days later. He never had a tremendous record with the Brewers and was usually just below .500 every year. While he had an Immaculate Inning (nine consective strikes and three strike outs) on May 7, 2015, he also hit Giancarlo Stanton in the face in 2014 and then proceeded to hit the guy that came up for him as well.

But 2015 changed Fiers fortunes a bit with a trade to the Astros. In just his third start for the Astros he pitched a no-hitter against the Dodgers. It was his first complete game too. 2016 was his first year with a winning record, going 11-8 with a 4.48 ERA and 134 strikeouts. He also led the league in wild pitches though. But he was also part of the Astros championship last year as well.

This year he moved on to Detroit and despite their team record, Fiers ended up 7-6 with them and they traded him to Oakland. He’s continued with a 5-1 record with Oakland so far and is 12-7 on the season.

I like the stacked style of Mike’s autograph. I especially like what looks like just a huge “F” for his last name. He kind of mixes in the last part of his name to the bottom of the “F”. What’s crazy about this one I think is that it shows that Mike takes his stuff with him. I sent this back in Spring Training to the Tigers and now he’s sent it back as a member of the Athletics.

Thanks Mr. Fiers! I’m giving this one a 7.
