The Story of the Autograph

Matt Whiteside is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He was a reliever from 1992 to 2005 with the Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves, and Toronto Blue Jays. He also played the 2003 season in Japan with the Yokohama BayStars.

Whiteside is a native of Missouri. He played football and basketball in high school in addition to baseball and lettered in all. He went on to Arkansas State to play baseball and get his degree in physical education. He was drafted from there by the Texas Rangers in the 25th round of the 1990 MLB Draft. After about three years in the minors he made his major league debut on August 5, 1992.

The spent the most time in his career with the Rangers from 1992 to 1997. During that time he went 14-10 with nine saves and a 4.61 ERA. His best season was 1995 when he pitched in 40 games with a 4.08 ERA and went 504 with three saves. After that he moved around quite a lot. In addition to the teams already mentioned, he spent time in the minors with the Colorado Rockies and Pittsburgh Pirates.

In 2005 he was suspended for violating the minor league steroid policy and had already pitched what would be his last major league game on May 7th as a member of the Blue Jays.

Matt has a nice signature. It definitely pops really well on these cards. They are all pretty good image to sign over and the Fleer and Upper Deck cards are especially brihgt and make the blue marker stand out well. It looks great with the Rangers colors.
