The Story of the Autograph

Mark Thompson is a former right-handed starting pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1994 to 2000 with the Colorado Rockies and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Thompson is a Kentucky native. He stayed in state for college and went to the University of Kentucky. The Rockies drafted him in the second round of the 1992 MLB Draft. He debuted for them two seasons later on July 26, 1994. He started just two games in that first season going 1-1 with a 9.00 ERA. He got more of a shot as a reliever in his second season going 2-3 with a 6.53 ERA in 21 games with five starts.

1996 was his best shot in the majors. He was primarily a starter that year for Colorado. He played in 34 games with 28 of them being starts. He put up a career high nine wins with eleven losses with a 5.30 ERA. He would play two more seasons in the mile high city before he was released after the 1998 season. He bounced to the Reds and then to the Cardinals in 1999. He pitched in a few games in his final two season in St. Louis with his last game being on July 27, 2000.

He would continue in the minors until 2003 before calling it a career after time with the Independent Long Island Ducks. He was a coach for the Casper Rockies in 2006.

The Score on Mark Thompson – 7.5

Mark’s signature sticks out really well on these cards. This was definitely a good selection to have for him to sign. It’s actually really hard to pick out a favorite. I think because he wasn’t super-successful in the majors and because he is a Kentucky kid, I kind of like seeing him in the Kentucky uniform.

Thanks Mr. Thompson! I’m giving this return a 7.5 overall.
