The Story of the Autograph

Mark Ryal is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played from 1982 to 1990 with the Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox, California Angels, Philadelphia Phillies, and Pittsburgh Pirates. He also with the Chunichi Dragons of the Nippon Professional Baseball league.

Ryal is a native of Oklahoma. The Kansas City Royals drafted him out of high school in the third round of the 1978 MLB Draft. After several years in the minors he debuted for them on September 7, 1982. Unfortunately after that six game cup of coffee, he didn’t appear in another game until 1985. That was with the White Sox after the Royals released him in 1984.

He’d be released by the White Sox as well and pick up with the Angels. This is where he had his longest tenure with any team of two years. While with the Angels he became the most recent left-handed player to play at shortstop, one of only five all-time.

He would be released and picked up a few more time by the Cardinals, Phillies and Pirates. He never appeared in a major league game for the Cardinals though. After his time with the Pirates in 1990 he moved on to Japan where he spent two years with the Chunichi Dragos.

The Score on Mark Ryal – 6.0

Mark is left-handed and you can tell by the angle of his signature. Normally when I see this I wonder if he even turned the cards, but usually if it’s a left-hander (which I am assuming he is given he throws with his left hand) I think he would. These came out pretty well. I think my favorite is the 1988 Topps card.

Thanks Mr. Ryal! I’m giving this return a 6.
