The Story of the Autograph

Mark Moseley is a former placekicker in the NFL. He played from 1970 to 1986 and spent almost his entire career with the Washington Redskins. He also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Oilers, and Cleveland Browns.

Moseley is a native of Texas. He was born and raised in Livingston, Texas and went to Texas A&M and Stephen F. Austin for college. He actually played quarterback at both schools but before graduating made the change to kicker. The Eagles drafted him in the 14th round of the 1970 NFL Draft. They released him after that first year and he moved on to the Oilers for a couple seasons. He then spent almost two years out of the NFL until Washington signed him as a free agent.

With the Redskins he would win trips to two Pro Bowls. But it was the strike shortened 1982 season that saw his greatest success. That year he was MVP, NFC Player of the Year, and First-team All-Pro. All that on his way to helping the team with Super Bowl XVII. He became the first kicker ever to win the MVP although others did who were kickers in addition to playing other positions.

In 1986 he was released mid-season and then signed with the Browns before retiring at the end of the season. He later owned restaurants in Virginia including being the director of franchising for Five Guys.

These old football cards I keep getting from the dime boxes at one of the local card shows have been a treasure trove for TTMs. This one from Mark is no exception. I always love a good inscription and one with the letters “MVP” is always a good one. I’m actually a little surprised I don’t have more cards from Mark. I’d love to find some more and hopefully some more trips to the card show will do the trick.

Thanks Mr. Moseley! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
