The Story of the Autograph
Luke Gregerson is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues who worked in relief and as a closer. He played from 2009 to 2019 and during that time he was with the San Diego Padres, Oakland Athletics, Houston Astros and St. Louis Cardinals.
Gregerson was born and raised in Illinois. After high school he went to St. Xavier University, also in Illinois. The Cardinals drafted him from there with a 28th round pick in the 2006 MLB Draft. He didn’t make it to the majors with the Cardinals though. Before the 2009 season he was traded to the Padres and he would make his major league debut with them on April 6, 2019.
He had several productive years with the Padres. From 2009 to 2013 he pitched in at least 61 games and as many as 80 in 2010 and kept a 2.88 ERA during that time. The Padres traded him to the A’s in December of 2013 and he would end up sharing the closing duties there with Sean Doolittle.
The following year, the 2015 season, he moved on to the Astros. He was their primary closer that year and went 7-3 with a 3.10 ERA and had 31 saves. While his save number went down, he continued to be used a lot. In 2017 he was part of their World Series winning team and that year went 2-3 with a 4.57 ERA and one save.
He moved on to the Cardinals where he struggled with injuries and was on and off the injured list. His production diminished with inconsistent playing time because of the injuries and his ERA ballooned to a 7.36 for his time in St. Louis. He played his final game on May 16, 2019 and was later released.

Regular readers know that I love when people sign with repetitive elements. A lot of times that means similar letters or the same letter repeated. But Luke found a way to do that with an “L” and a “G”. I’m not exactly sure how he did that, but here it is and it looks great. I only wish that I had better cards to show it off on. The 2016 Topps card does it the best though.
