The Story of the Autograph
Lucas Sims is a current major league pitcher. The right-hander has been in the league since 2017 has thus far as played with the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds.
Sims is a Georgia native and in 2012 he was drafted in the first round of the MLB Draft by his hometown team, the Braves. He pitched well at times in the minors and in 2013 he was considered the Braves best prospect. Unfortunately over the next couple years he fell a bit in those same rankings but maintained in the Top 15. He was invited to Spring Training in 2016.
He’d be in the majors the following season, making his major league debut on August 1, 2017. That was the same day as Ozzie Albies and it was the first time since 1968 that the Braves had two players make their major league debuts on the same day. There was promise that he would go into 2018 as a member of the rotation, but unfortunately he lost out to others and began the year in the minors. Midway through the 2018 season he was traded to the Reds with Matt Wisler and Preston Tucker in exchange for Adam Duvall.
Sims wouldn’t make his Reds debut until the next year. He pitched 20 games in the shortened 2020 season and then 47 in the 2021 season, all of those appearances in relief. In this most recent season he went 5-3 with a 4.40 ERA in 47 games with seven saves and 76 strikeouts.

I’m not sure what Lucas is signing but it appears to be three letters. I definitely get the “L” but I’m not so sure about the rest. I like that he is on the same card as Ozzie and they debuted together. I’d love to think I could get Albies to sign it but I know that will never happen. I think the Allen & Ginter card came out really well. That’s probably because the image is faded and it let’s the signature show.
