The Story of the Autograph

Larry Biittner is a former outfielder and first baseman in the major leagues. Hi played from 1970 through 1983 with the Washington Senators/Texas Rangers, Montreal Expos, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds and Texas Rangers.

Biittner was born and raised in Pocohantas, Iowa. He was drafted by the Senators in the 10th round of the 1968 MLB Draft out of college. He made his major league debut on July 17, 1970 but only made it into two games that first season. His playing time expanded as the team moved from Washington to Texas. Then he moved on to the Cubs and Expos via trade.

He had some of his best seasons with the Cubs where he spent 1976 through 1980. In 1977 he hit .298 with 12 home runs and 62 RBI (the last two were career highs). Before the end of his career he played in Cincinnati and then finished his career back in Texas in 1983.

Larry has a pretty simple signature, but it came out pretty good on all these cards. All these cards do a great job of giving him a good place to sign and show off his signature. My favorite of these is the 1976 because that’s one of my favorite card designs and one of my favorite uniforms too.

Thanks Mr. Biittner! I’m giving this return a 7.
