The Story of the Autograph

Ken Aspromonte is a former second baseman and manager in the major leagues. He played between 1957 and 1963 for the Boston Red Sox, Washington Senators, Cleveland Indians (twice), Los Angeles Angels, Milwaukee Braves and Chicago Cubs. He later managed the Indians from 1972 to 1974.

Aspromonte was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He was signed by the Red Sox as an amateur free agent prior to the 1950 season. After several years in the minor leagues and time in the military, he debuted in the majors on September 2, 1957. He was traded and moved around in different ways a lot during his career and never really stuck with any team for more than three seasons. His best shot in the league was when he played 117 games in Cleveland in 1960.

After his time in the majors he went on to play in Japan from 1964 to 1966. Those years he spent with the Chunichi Dragons and the Taiyo Whales. In 1968 he started managing in the Indians farm system and made it all the way to the major league level in 1972. Unfortunately he never won more than 77 games in a season, which he did in 1974, his final year.

The Score on Ken Aspromonte – 6.5

Ken included this extra post card of his 1972 card. Of course I like it when an extra is included and I love this one that looks like a card. I also like the 1973 version of manager cards because I like that the other coaches are on there. As for Ken’s signature, it’s pretty standard, but he signed over the text on the card and it makes it a little hard to read.

Thanks Mr. Aspromonte! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
