The Story of the Autograph

Eric Hillman is a former left-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played with the New York Mets from 1992 to 1994 and worked mostly as a starter. After his time in the majors he played in Japan with the Chiba Lotte Marines and Yomiuri Giants.

Hillman was born in Indiana and grew up outside Chicago. He went to college at Eastern Illinois and was drafted from there by the Mets in the sixteenth round of the 1987 MLB Draft. After five seasons in the minors he made his major league debut on May 18, 1992. His most significant time in the majors was in his second season when he pitched in 27 games with 22 starts. He pitched to a 2-9 record with a 3.97 ERA in 145 innings pitched.

After his time in the majors he went to play in Japan for three seasons. That started when Bobby Valentine was managing the Chiba Lotte Marines in 1995. He had winnings records in his first two seasons and was an All-Star in 1996 and a member of the best nine. He was injured much of 1997 with issues on his throwing shoulder. He never recovered from surgery and officially retired in 2000.

In the late 00’s he was an analyst for the Colorado Rockies broadcasts.

Eric has a really cool signature. I can’t really figure out everything he’s doing in there, but that doesn’t make it any less cool. That loop in the middle is very interesting and an uppercase “E” in cursive is pretty cool too. These all were pretty great cards for signing as well.

Thanks Mr. Hillman! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
