The Story of the Autograph

John Mabry is a former outfielder and first baseman in the major leagues. He played form 1994 to 2007 and spent time with the St. Louis Cardinals (three times), Seattle Mariners (twice), San Diego Padres, Florida Marlins, Philadelphia Phillies, Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies.

Mabry was born in Delaware and grew up in Maryland. He went on to attend West Chester University of Pennsylvania and was then drafted by the Cardinals in the sixth round of the 1991 MLB Draft. He would make his major league debut on April 23, 1994. He had his best years in the league in the first five years he spent with the Cardinals. His first official year might have been the best of those when he played in 129 games and hit a career high .307 with five homers and 41 RBI.

After that first stint with the Cardinals he couldn’t stick much with any team. He was traded three times in his career and moved around a lot as a free agent. The most time he would play outside of those first years was in his third stint with St. Louis when he played in 112 games. He played his final game on May 17, 2007.

After played he was an analyst on TV in St. Louis. In more recent years he’s been coaching with the Cardinals and more recently the Royals.

There isn’t much to John’s signature and it’s on the small side. Not the smallest but it has characteristics of what you see in smaller signatures. It looks like he signs with his first initial and then last name. It also looks like it’s all one word. I think on both of these while he centered the signature, it’s probably not in the best place to show it off.

Thanks Mr. Mabry! I’m giving this return a 6.
